Alumnae Association Board

Dear Alumnae:

As many of you have been working hard establishing your careers, starting families or enjoying retirement, changes have been taking place at Oakland Catholic. Years of renovations are complete, transforming the mighty OC into a state-of-the-art facility for the hundreds of girls currently attending the school.

In addition to physical renovations, Oakland Catholic has also chosen to enhance its Alumnae Association. Debbie McGregor Ceponis (CHS '70), Heidi Hylton Meier (OLOMA '73) and Kathleen Reilly O'Brien (SHHS '84) have agreed to serve as vice presidents. Cindy McNulty will be the teacher liaison.

After being asked to take on the role of president of the association, I couldn't refuse. My time at Oakland Catholic to this day has been four of the greatest years of my life. After spending the past seven years sending out a bi-monthly newsletter to my class, I thought what a perfect way to reach thousands of alumnae to better connect us all. Oakland Catholic's motto, "For Life," is forever imprinted on my spirit. My two sisters and I all attended the school, and we have one sister there now.

I graduated from Oakland Catholic in 2003 and currently live in the D.C. area. After attending American University, I now work as a social reporter for The Hill Newspaper, a Congressional publication with a circulation of over 21,000. Whether it's interviewing someone for a profile or working with coworkers on a project, I've used the life lessons gained at OC and it's never without the strong Catholic Christian values I learned there.

In this age of technological advances, OC is working to better connect our young alumnae with tools like Facebook, while still maintaining a strong base with those who graduated before us. We all have a unique shared experience, and it's important to maintain that sense of belonging.

So, I urge you to get involved with Oakland Catholic again. Get in touch with your fellow alums and get ready to experience some positive changes to the Oakland Catholic alumnae community.

Sincerely,

Kate Oczypok
